What next?

Well, the 2011 Festival is barely over and we’re already planning for next year.

Performer applications are open now – until 1 February 2012 when the committee will meet and start to shortlist.

Links to photos and other material from 2011 will be up on the site in the next few days (sorry, I’ve had a few other things on just recently) and we’ll be asking you, the festival goers, for feedback on what we did right (and not-so right) this year, so we can make 2012 even better.

A last few words …

Labour weekend is just days away….. Online registrations are now closed – thanks to everyone who has registered… the committee had a packing party a couple of nights ago getting your registration packs ready.

More of you than ever have pre-registered so we know it will be a great festival.

If you haven’t registered yet you can still pay at the gate for weekend, day or part day passes from 3pm on Friday afternoon. The full festival programme can is up online at and it’s shaping up to be a fun weekend.

The programme may still change… one late addition that will be announced at the festival is a Sunday afternoon workshop on Country Music (Hank Williams to Johnny Cash) in the Nelson Lounge.

If you are camping (or staying up late?!?!?) remember to bring warm clothes and bedding – and while we can look for divine assistance there is always a fair chance of rain and mud – so pack those waterproofs and gumboots. Also the main concert marquee has limited seating available so bring a folding chair if you want to be sure of a comfy seat.

We look forward to seeing you at Labour weekend. Gates open at 3pm (and not before – they will be locked) on Friday 21 October.

Earlybird regos closed

Well, we’re now counting down the days, finalising all the last minute tasks …

Earlybird registrations have closed and we’reworking through all the bookings we’ve received (and it’s been really good to see how many there have been!) and matching them with the banking.

If you missed out on the discounts, that’s a shame, but you can still book your registrations online and pay by 15 October. That will save a lot of time at the gate for everyone.

We’ve also had some enquiries about day tickets – these are only available at the gate, and must be paid for in cash or by cheque as we don’t have EFTPOS or credit card facilities on site.

We’ve run out of bunks!

We’ve had a rush of bunk bookings over the last few days and are just working through these to make certain we can give everyone who has booked so far a bed.

So, as of right now, we’re not taking any further bunk bookings for the Festival. If you have missed out, we’re really sorry but you will need to bring a tent or a caravan instead (we’re also out of power points for vans but there’s still plenty of space to put them in).

Get ready for Labour weekend 2011. Book your diaries now for 21-24 October. Your committee has been very busy booking guests and creating another fabulous Wellington Folk Festival.This year’s festival features guests young and old (well, mature), familiar and new, from all over New Zealand and overseas. For details of our guest list and links to their music go to our Guest Artists page.

We have the usual mix of feature and blackboard concerts, dances and workshops giving everyone the chance to play, learn and meet the guest artists. There will also be an active programme for the kids to enjoy.

…and (if you want) you can enjoy the Rugby World Cup at the festival…

We’re up against a bit of competition this year with Labour Weekend also featuring the final matches of the Rugby World Cup. For those of you who might be torn between the Festival and the games – fear not. We will turn the Fletcher Hall into games territory for Friday and Sunday evenings, with a big screen for the fans. (Thanks to everyone who filled in our survey earlier in the year – you helped us make this decision.)

And, to ensure that you won’t have to choose between the main concert and your obsession with oval balls, we’ve adjusted the programme so that the main concert will be on the Saturday night, with the ceilidh on Sunday evening..

And despite all of this, the prices for this year will stay the same as last year. Registrations will open on 15 August to allow you to take advantage of the early bird discounts. We’ll send you another reminder closer to the date. If you would like to book a bunk, we suggest that you register early as these often go quickly. Like last year, registrations will be online, with payment either via e-banking or by deposit to the Festival’s bank account.

If for any reason, you cannot use the online registration form, please email us registrations@wellingtonfolkfestival.org.nz and someone will help you register.

We’ll be in touch again soon. Meantime, make sure your diary is clear for Labour Weekend and start getting ready to join the best Folk Fest in the region.
