2018 Guests

The Festival is delighted to announce that the following acts will be appearing in 2018.  As we finalise the programme further, more information will be released.

Máire Ní Chathasaigh & Chris Newman – “Virtuosic, fascinating, dramatic, original, inspired, gloriously adventurous, dazzling, brilliant, stunning, impassioned, electrifying, bewitching, moving, achingly beautiful, influential, revered, unique…”  Harp and guitar to die for.

Ungus Ungus Ungus – described as Australia’s “premier peddlers of vaudevillian psychedelia”.

Terence Blacker – from the UK, whose quirky off-beat songs have been compared to Jake Thackray and Tom Lehrer.

The String Contingent – acoustic chamber-folk trio from Australia and Scotland, who wowed the Festival audience  with their musicianship and non-stop energy when they last visited in 2011.

Donna Dean – keeping you rooted to your seat with her guitar and honest lyrics that may raise the hair on the back of your neck.

OrigiNZ – this 16 piece fusion band, has taken traditional New Zealand and Celtic music and mixed it up into a sound that is loud, proud and unbowed.

RhodeWorks – our favourite youth band is back, leading the youth progrmme for another year.

Muggeridge & Murphy – the combination of renowned blues guitarist Dave Murphy and Janet Muggeridge brings a fresh approach to familiar and favourite tunes.

The Wooden Box Band – local Wellingtonians play “urban folk music”.

Downunderdogs – local three-part vocal/instrumental blending features bluegrass, old-time, country, swing and originals.

Vic Folk – set up in 2017 with the aim of giving students at Victoria University access to opportunities to learn, play, dance and listen to traditional music, the club is particularly focused on participatory events.
